Flight attendant helps with landing
Omaha News.Net Thursday 20th November, 2008
A flight attendant aboard an Air Canada passenger jet helped to land the aircraft in Ireland after its co-pilot suffered a mental breakdown.
The incident happened last January, creating an emergency situation while the plane was carrying passengers from Toronto to London flight.
146 passengers were on board when the co-pilot aboard began rambling incoherently and eventually became belligerent and uncooperative.
His behavior caused the pilot to have him removed with the help of flight crew, one of whom was then assigned to become the new co-pilot.
The flight attendant, who held a commercial pilot's license, helped land the jetliner at Shannon.
The original co-pilot was admitted to an acute psychiatric ward of a County Claire hospital for 11 days.
